Tondach secures exclusive roofing contract for Olympia City Sochi

Tondach Gleinstätten AG has been awarded an exclusive contract from the Russian general contractor covering the supply of roofing material for the huge “Sochi” construction site. That Black Sea city is hosting the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Tondach is supplying the roofing material for the Olympic project “Gornaya Carousel” – one of the biggest development projects in the mountainous “Krasnaya Polyana” resort region in preparation for the 2014 Olympics. The project encompasses the entire sports and tourism complex, incl. the Olympic Media Village, which is scheduled for completion by the end of 2013.

The roofing – altogether some 160 000 m2 – will consist of diverse Tondach products, including a perspectually harmonious line of roofing accessories such as eaves troughs, ridge and arris rolls, snow catchers, etc. Venus tiles in two different hues will be used for the main roofs at altitudes ranging from 540 to
960 m. Measuring 29 x 48.5 cm, these tiles feature timeless elegance, a cambered shape and functionality. At only approx. 11 pcs./m², Venus is quite efficient to install. In the interest of creativity, the chief architect decided in favour of plain tiles for the smaller and/or more fanciful roofs, as they are well suited for cupolas, turrets, and the like, and they provide extra inclement-weather protection via double roofing.

The Gornaya Carousel contract is worth approximately € 2.5 million. Construction work for this project commenced in September 2010 and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2012.

The engobe colours RV3 and RV4 for Venus tiles were developed in several stages and in collaboration with the Russian architects, the general contractor and the project roofer. Out came a blend of green, yellow and gray shades for brindling onto the tiles according to a proprietary technique. The resultant colouration gives the roofs a calm, harmonious look, complete with Mediterranean flair. In addition, each and every Tondach tile comes with a unique “Sochi 2014“ stamp on its back.
