52nd Würzburg Brick and Tile Training Course

The tradition of the Würzburg Brick and Tile Training Course is just a bat of an eyelid compared to the thousands of years of tradition of the clay brick. However, the crucial development of the once “simple” clay bricks and tiles to today’s high-tech products has really picked up speed in recent decades. This period has been accompanied by the Brick and Tile Training Course. It has always kept brick and tile professionals updated on the state of the art and will continue to do so in future.

At the beginning of the Würzburg Brick and Tile Training Course in 1962, firing was still done in annular or zigzag kilns. Today we use modern tunnel kilns. From just a few different brick products, a huge range of widely different high-tech products optimally tailored to the specific applications has been developed. Manual work has been increasingly replaced by automated and optimized production processes that guarantee top-quality finished brick and tile products. And with regard to the use of raw materials and energy resources in general, occupational health and safety, and environmental protection, some quantum leaps have been made thanks to improved processes.

Modern building culture needs ever better bricks and tiles with outstanding structural properties. The focus must not only be on energy-conscious building, but on the creation of ecologically oriented values and buildings. So that we can continue playing in the top division, we have to move forward and make our brick products better and better. There is still a lot of development potential here, which leads me to look optimistically to the future.

This year’s Würzburg Brick and Tile Training Course will also inform trade professionals about new things in the clay brick and tile industry, future-oriented developments and changes in the general conditions. With the support programme, the course provides an opportunity to establish new contacts, compare experience or to gain insights in related industries during the excursion. This year’s excursion will include a tour of Kinkele GmbH & Co. KG, a machine, equipment and plant engineering company based in Ochsenfurt. This company has not explicitly specialized in products for the clay brick and tile industry but serves many industrial sectors and branches. And certainly many of the participants will take away new ideas and make interesting contacts.

Who knows where the journey for our products will go! To always be on the ball, you have to constantly get new information and learn lifelong. The readers of “our” journal Zi Brick and Tile Industry International and naturally all the participants at the Würzburg Brick and Tile Training Course can get the latest information. As Course Director, I hope that I can welcome many of you valued Zi readers to the 52nd Course in Würzburg.

Wishing you successful firing!

Yours Joachim Deppisch
