House LS in Madampe, Sri Lanka

The project has won the Fritz Höger Award for Brick Architecture 2014 in gold in the “Newcomer” category.

The jury judged: “A long white building built in brick lies idyllically between beach and palm trees on the west coast of Sri Lanka. The clear and airy stylistic elements of the building with its simple gabled roof consisting of a white-painted wooden rafter structure lend the building the appearance of innocence, while making its existence appear naturally rooted in the landscape. The project impresses with its clear-cut simplicity and, nestling in an unconventional beach atmosphere, it conveys a refreshing lightness, despite its genesis as a solid brick structure. A holiday home as though cast from a single mould”.
