Since 1902 raw dolomite rock has been extracted from ­Grevenbrueck quarry and processed to high-quality raw materials for the steel and foundry industry. The quarry is operated by Grevenbruecker Kalkwerk GmbH & Co. KG and is located directly on the B 236 road between Finnentrop and Lennestadt. In geological terms, the deposit is situated in the northern part of the Slate Mountains on the right bank of the Rhine, in the outcrop of strata from the Middle to Upper Devonian.
