New logistics centre for roof ceramics being built in Neufahrn, Bavaria

As the world’s first roof tile manufacturer, ERLUS has decided to automate the logistics of roof ceramics and accessories and is investing in a state-of-the-art logistics centre at its production site in Neufahrn in Lower Bavaria.

The new logistics centre is being built in the north-west of the ERLUS site and will optimise the loading process. At peak times, up to 100 trucks leave the yard every day. Ergoldsbach roof tiles and roof ceramic mouldings were previously picked, packed and temporarily stored manually on pallets using forklifts. With the automation of the processes, waiting times can be avoided.

With the new logistics centre, ERLUS is setting an example in terms of speed, availability and quality. The automated high-bay warehouse will be of silo construction, is around 30 metres high and has space for around 8,400 pallets. “The goods come to the people, no longer the other way around,” explains Martin Eisenreich, Head of Logistics and Purchasing at ERLUS AG. This improves the working conditions for the employees, the loading process is optimised, the inventory of goods is precisely stored and noise emissions are also reduced.

“With this new logistics centre, we are pioneers in the industry and are one of the first to use automated storage and order-picking technology for roofing ceramics,” emphasises ERLUS CEO Peter Hoffmann. The investment is in the lower double-digit millions, construction of the logistics centre began in April 2022, and it is scheduled to go into operation at the end of 2023.
