Review of the Tiles and Bricks Europe congress in Budapest

The 2025 TBE Congress took place in Budapest, Hungary, on 5–6 June 2025, and was kindly hosted by MATÉSZ – Magyar Tégla És Tetöcserép Szövetség (Hungarian Brick and Roof Tile Association).

TBE members, executives from the tiles and bricks industry, and national associations from across Europe gathered in person to discuss key updates and policy developments impacting the European tiles and bricks sector.

The Congress officially opened on Thursday, 5 June with the TBE Joint Working Groups Meeting, bringing together the Product Group Roofing Tiles, Product Group Masonry, and the Technical & Environmental Working Group.

In the afternoon, the TBE Executive Committee met to discuss administrative matters, strategic dossiers, and future priorities. Later, all participants joined a Budapest River Cruise, offering a scenic view of the Hungarian capital from the Danube. The day concluded with a Gala Dinner held at the iconic Gundel Restaurant.

The second day of the Congress, Friday 6 June, began with the TBE high-level conference on the topic of: “Affordable and Sustainable Housing in the EU – challenges and opportunities for the bricks and roof tiles industry”. Speakers included MEP Andreas Schieder (video message), Heimo Scheuch, László Szarka, Besim Nebiu, Koen Bosmans, and Dr. Kapros Zoltán, and the session was moderated by Zsuzsanna Orbán-Nagy. The conference highlighted the need to properly coordinate industrial and housing policies at EU and national levels, as well as the need to provide access to adequate financial mechanisms to support investment and innovation.

This was followed by presentations from the event sponsors: CEE Engineering, Emidat GmbH and Castolin Zrt, and the TBE General Assembly, which focused on current legislative and regulatory priorities. Topics included key climate and energy files such as the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), as well as construction and sustainability files, including the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) review, the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED), and BREF developments.

The Congress concluded with an optional programme including a Hungarian wine tasting on Friday afternoon and a visit to the Wienerberger factory in Solymár on Saturday, 7 June offering participants further insight into local industry practices and innovations.

We are pleased to announce that the next TBE Congress will take place in Toulouse, France, on 18–19 June 2026.
