Family-owned for a century and a half: Ziegelei Schumacher in Körbligen, Switzerland

The Körbligen brick factory, now headed in its 6th generation by present proprietor Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Kurt Schumacher, celebrated its 150th year in business in 2010. In his modern facilities, this masonry brick producer makes an array of products including the Swissmodul formats and highly insulative bricks and blocks.


1 History

Way back in 1855, Anton Schumacher, the great-great-great-grandfather of the company‘s present owner Kurt Schumacher, purchased Körbliger Hof. In 1860, he, his sons and six hired workers began producing roof tiles and bricks. They installed an annular kiln in 1892.

At the turn of the century, Anton‘s son Josef took the reins and, in 1907, commenced to install the brickyard‘s first light railway.
