A new vitrified clay pipe production facility for Saudi Arabia

For several years now, there has been lively building activity in all sectors in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Most remarkable is the continued rise of ceramic building materials used for the construction of buildings, such as bricks and roof tiles. In this particular area the trend is towards more domestic production and fewer imports. Lingl has been part of this endeavour in Saudi Arabia for the past 30 years. This is evidenced by the supply of machinery and plants to, amongst others, Yamama, El Maimani, Khayyatt and Saudi Red Brick. Word of satisfactory supplies from Germany must have spread across the country as, in 2006, Dr. Al Sayari and his team placed an order for a new vitrified clay pipe plant and machinery, again with Lingl, Krumbach, ­located in the Swabian part of Germany.

1 Introduction

Saudi Vitrified Clay Pipes Corporation built a production facility with a weekly output of 1 000–1 200 tonnes of vitrified clay pipes, with lengths of up to 2.0 m and diameters of up to 1.2 m, north of the capital city Riadh, which has a population of four million. Regular production commenced at the beginning of 2008. The plant has an annual output of 85 000 tonnes, if the output of three shuttle kilns for specials and accessories is added to the above.
