Sacmi presents new technologies for heavy clay ceramics

At Tecnargilla 2012, the Imola-based Sacmi Group will be presenting its latest developments for the production of tiles, sanitaryware and heavy clay ceramics.

In the special Claytech section dedicated to the heavy clay industry (Halls A5-C5), a series of technologies will be exhibited that are designed to combine production efficiency with environmental friendliness, especially as regards optimization of energy consumption. Technological innovation proceeds in heavy clay ceramics too, especially as regards roofing tiles, for which Sacmi will be presenting special roller dryers and kilns with H-setters. Then, of course, there is the new Technological Laboratory at the Imola facility, fully dedicated to heavy clay technology. This will be inaugurated during Tecnargilla and, on Wednesday 26 September, on the occasion of the first Heavy Clay Open Day, will also be the venue for the “New Trends in the Heavy Clay Sector” technical symposium organized for Sacmi customers.

Open Day at Sacmi and inauguration of the new laboratory

In the morning there will be guided visits to the Sacmi plant, with a strong focus on the new heavy clay technological lab. This features up-to-the-minute equipment, such as a flat extrusion line with dryer and roller kiln for rapid processes, a heavy clay ceramic extrusion line, complete with static dryer and kiln using a conventional process, plus a line for the plastic pressing of roofing tiles. Technological innovations that will all, in fact, be on display at Tecnargilla, in the special Claytech section.

In the afternoon talks will be given by key industry players, starting with Heimo Scheuch, Managing Director of Wienerberger and President of TBE (the European Association of Brick and Roofing Tile Producers), and Lorenzo Bellicini, Chairman and Managing Director of Cresme (the economic, sociological and market research institute); they will be analysing key trends in the construction market in both Italy and Europe. Following them will be Aleksej Vjacheslavovich Gavrilov, Managing Director of LSR St Petersburg, one of the biggest brick makers in the Russian Federation. Afterwards there will be a careful appraisal of the main challenge facing the heavy clay sector, that of new materials and construction techniques for “zero impact” buildings: illustrating the theme will be Ulrich Klammsteiner, Technical Director of Casa Clima, an Italian specialist in the construction and certification of low-energy buildings. To bring the Open Day to a close, Luis Carlos Barbosa Lima, President of the Brazilian Ceramic Industry Association, will illustrate key technological innovations regarding all the alternative fuels, such as biomass, already used extensively by the Brazilian heavy clay industry.
