Metallically shimmering ceramic

In the Danish town of Ishoj, around 20 kilometres south-west of Copenhagen, an unusual residential estate has been completed.

The complex designed by the two Copenhagen firms ONV Arkitekter and JAJA Architects consists of two- to three-storey structures with various protrusions and recesses. The brick slips used in particular are very eye-catching with their unusual dimensions, overlapping “fish-scale-like” arrangement and metallically shimmering surface give the impression of weathered wooden shingles.

The brick slips covering a surface area of altogether 2 700 m² emphasize the innovative character of the architecture and create completely different views depending on the time of the day and light incidence, with the horizontally grooved surface of the slips adding to their appeal.
