Permitted dwellings in 2019: + 4.0% compared to previous year

In 2019, the construction of 360 600 dwellings was permitted in Germany. The figures include building permits for new buildings as well as for construction work on existing buildings.

4.6 % more permitted dwellings in apartment buildings

Approximately 311 200 dwellings were permitted in 2019 in new residential buildings to be constructed. This was 3.0 % or 8 900 dwellings more than in the previous year. This is due in particular to the development for apartment buildings (+ 4.6 %). However, the number of building permits for detached houses also rose by 1.2 % and those for semi-detached houses by 2.6 %.

Less enclosed space in newly constructed non-residential buildings

In the case of new non-residential buildings to be constructed that were permitted in 2019, the enclosed space decreased by 1.1 % to 223.1 mill. m³ compared to the same period of the previous year.
