Sacmi acquires 60-% share in Cosmec

With the aim of becom ing a leading international provider of automated solutions to the heavy clay industry, Sacmi Imola is acquiring a 60-% stake in Cosmec.

Cosmec specializes in the design and manufacture of automated plants and machines for the heavy clay industry. Cosmec has an impressive customer portfolio and an excellent reputation on several emerging markets such as Algeria, Russia and South America. In 2013 Sacmi enjoyed considerable success through its Heavy Clay Division in markets such as Latin America, Russia and the Far East. This was achieved based on innovation of Sacmi’s range of dryers and kilns and focussing more and more, via the Group company Gaiotto Automation, on providing complete automated solutions for handling, conveying and end-of-line operations.

A global industrial engineering player with over 4 000 employees, 70 companies worldwide and interests in various business areas, Sacmi has identified in Cosmec the key to reinforcing its position on the heavy clay market while simultaneously offering Cosmec an opportunity to boost its fortunes and further strengthen its brand.

Cosmec has been active as a player in the industry since 1974. In 2011 a group of Vicenza industrialists rented the ailing company and invested in its existing competences, manufacturing and sales assets. Thanks to this action, within just a few years the brand had bounced back to enjoy success on international markets. Now, as a member of the Sacmi Group, the company can once again aspire to becoming an acknowledged reference point in process automation for heavy clay production.

Sacmi Imola’s Managing Director Pietro Cassani points out that Sacmi can compete on an equal footing with the industry’s major players and so meet the challenges of a global heavy clay machine market that is worth at least 450 mill. Euros a year.
