Sound insulation – the new DIN 4109

The official sound insulation verification certificate in accordance with DIN 4109:1989-11, addendum 1, as hitherto commonly called for, does not adequately prognosticate the quality of sound insulation to be expected. In some cases, it actually excludes masonry consisting of of clay masonry units with “acoustically unfavourable perforations” and apparent densities < 0.8 from use as flanking construction elements.
