Student field trip – the second …

On 3 and 4 November, it was that time again. At the Creaton plant in Wertingen, more than 30 students taking part in the student field trip organized by Zi Brick and Tile Industry International met with representatives of five industry partners.

Under the direction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Schäffer from Koblenz University of Applied Sciences, Department of Materials Engineering, Glass and Ceramics, Höhr-Grenzhausen, and Prof. Dr W. Krcmar from Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm, the students from different semesters found out about career opportunities in the clay brick and tile industry and its supplier companies.

As the perfect host for this year’s event, Creaton AG ensured that the meeting went smoothly and, by arranging tours of the Wertingen and Roggden plants, gave the students a good insight into field operations.

Besides enabling the students to forge contacts, one objective of the trip is to communicate to them current issues and news from the industry in various talks. The sponsors, Grothe Rohstoffe GmbH & Co. KG, Keller HCW GmbH, Hans Lingl Anlagenbau und Verfahrenstechnik GmbH & Co. KG, Opavsky Emailleschmelze & Glasurenfabrikation und Refratechnik Ceramics GmbH, outlined key aspects of their work and research activities. Unfortunately, the representative from Händle GmbH Maschinen und Anlagenbau had to cancel his participation owing to illness.

Just as important as the transfer of knowledge is for the students and industry to get to know each other better. Split up into small groups, the students had the opportunity to interview the different company representatives and ask their questions in short rounds of talks. Once the ice had been broken, the participants were able to “talk shop” at a social evening at a brewery.

Our thanks go to Creaton AG and the team from Wertingen and Roggden for their support on the day as well as the sponsors, without whom the event would not have been possible. We in the clay brick and tile industry and its suppliers all have make efforts to attract competent and interested young people into our sector. The field trip offers an excellent opportunity for this. That is why we are already looking forward to visiting another modern, future-oriented brick plant with the students in 2016. Get involved! Perhaps you’ll meet your next plant manager in the group.

With this in mind, I should be delighted to get you on board. If you are interested in joining us, just ring me on: +49 5241 80-89264.

Yours
