Hörl & Hartmann Brickworks switch entire production to natural gas

Hörl & Hartmann Brickworks (Dachau, Gerst-hofen) have switched all production sites to operation with natural gas. This conversion is reducing fuel-related emissions by around 20% and is the latest measure towards CO2-neutral production: at the beginning of 2013, an energy management system was introduced in compliance with DIN EN ISO 50001. On top of that, Hörl & Hartmann has been operating a photovoltaic installation since 2010. This has a power of 840 kW, and in 2012 alone it fed around 850 000 kWh into the power grid. Since 2011 a woodchip boiler fuelled with wood from old pallets has been used to supply heat to the dryer for the clay brick products. With these measures, the company has been able to dispense completely with fuel oil. An environmental management system in compliance with DIN EN ISO 14001 is also to be introduced by the end of 2013.
