The brick and tile industry is facing an unprecedented transformation, not only in Germany but worldwide. The German Climate Protection Act provides for a gradual reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to 1990, with a total reduction of at least 55 percent by the target year of 2030. In the long term, the German government is pursuing the goal of greenhouse gas neutrality by 2045.
The question arises as to how the brick and tile industry can concretely respond to these targets. The Federal Association of the German Brick and Tile Industry has addressed possible answers to this in its Roadmap for a Greenhouse Gas Neutral Brick and Tile Industry.
Katharina Armbrecht explained in her presentation how these scenarios could be implemented. She is Head of Energy and Environment at the Federal Association of the German Brick and Tile Industry, a member of the scientific advisory board of the Institute for Brick and Tile Research Essen and a member of the programme advisory board of the Würzburg Brick and Tile Course.

The German government's current support programme for energy-intensive industry in Germany was presented by Sebastian Varga in his lecture 'Decarbonisation in Industry'. He explained which projects and which companies are eligible for funding, what the funding actually looks like and what the application procedure is like.
The funding programme supports the transformation process towards greenhouse gas neutrality. It is intended to contribute to the climate-friendly and sustainable development of German industrial locations, as well as to securing jobs and creating new ones.
Sebastian Varga works in the field of project funding for the glass and ceramics industry at the Competence Centre Climate Protection in Energy-Intensive Industries (KEI).
