04.01.2010 News: Hannover Messe 2010 (19 - 23 April) - Hermes Award 2010 – Deutsche Messe stages technology award

In 2010 Deutsche Messe will once again present the Hermes Award, its internationally acclaimed technology prize, which is worth a total of 100,000 euros to the winners. The award is bestowed on exceptional innovations that are showcased for the first time at Hannover Messe 2010. The award presentation takes place as part of the official opening ceremony for Hannover Messe on 18 April 2010. The German Minister for Education and Research, Prof. Dr. Annette Schavan, will present the winners and the nominated companies in the presence of the Premier of Lower Saxony, Christian Wulff.

“Innovation is the key to success. Many companies realize the importance of innovative products, especially during times such as these. Hannover Messe offers an ideal international stage for showcasing innovative products to a broad audience. We are confident that the coming months will see a large number of outstanding entries for the Hermes Award, which provides new companies in particular with a valuable opportunity to attract worldwide attention”, says Dr. Wolfram von Fritsch, Chairman of the Board at Deutsche Messe AG.

The award is bestowed on innovative products that have already proven their worth in practical use and/or are suitable for industrial application in terms of their technical and economic value. All products nominated for Hermes Award 2010 will be exhibited at Hannover Messe from 19-23 April 2010 in the Research & Technology area of Hall 2.

The competition is open to companies and organizations that exhibit their product innovations at Hannover Messe 2010. Application forms to enter the competition must be submitted by 18 February 2010 at the latest. Further information and conditions of participation can be found online at www.hermesaward.com .

An independent panel of judges chaired by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Wahlster, Director and Chairman of the managing board of the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), will select the prize winners.

Last year’s winner of the Hermes Award was Voith Turbo Wind GmbH & Co. KG. The company, based in Crailsheim, Germany, was responsible for the pioneering mechatronic drive system, which utilizes highly dynamic variable transmission in the driveline of wind turbines. For the developers of the WinDrive system, winning the Hermes Award provided a springboard to the global market for regenerative energy.
