14.10.2010 News: SEW-Eurodrive opens new plant for large gear units in Bruchsal

SEW-Eurodrive has opened a new plant for large gear units at its site in Bruchsal, Germany. Rainer Blickle, owner and Managing Partner of SEW-Eurodrive, and Stefan Mappus, prime minister of Baden-Württemberg, brought the plant “on-line” on Wednesday, October 13. This expands SEW-Eurodrive’s worldwide production network, which includes sites in Germany, China, Finland and Brazil, ensuring proximity to customers, a quick response to their requirements, and short delivery times.

The new plant for large gear units at the Bruchsal site is now officially in operation following a quick construction phase and a short startup period. SEW-Eurodrive now produces its largest drive solutions in Bruchsal. Large gear units are found, for example, in container terminals, in sugar cane processing, in raw materials handling, in the process industry, and in mining.

In addition to the large “catalog gear units”, industrial gear units of the X series are also manufactured at the plant. With finely graduated sizes, this series covers the torque range from 58 to 475 kNm. The large number of pre-defined accessories offers a high degree of flexibility for adaptation to the application situation – with a minimum of components at maximum availability.

The new plant for large and industrial gear units is a clear sign from SEW-Eurodrive: the company is firm in its belief of the benefits of producing in Germany. What started out almost 80 years ago as a small shop on Durlacher Straße in Bruchsal is today a true global player with over 13,000 employees in 47 countries. As one of the world’s foremost specialists in drive technology, SEW-Eurodrive has strong roots in its home region in Central Europe. The choice was clear: when deciding where to build the new plant, Bruchsal was at the top of the list.
