The former advertising manager for Zi Brick and Tile Industry International, Manfred W. Kleinfeld, died on 4 September.

He was born 1937 in Berlin. On the 1st July 1960 he took up employment with the Bauverlag Wiesbaden as advertising clerk for the journal “Die Ziegelindustrie” and the annual publication “Ziegeleitechnisches Jahrbuch”. He has played an essential part in its development into the leading technical journal worldwide for the international brick-making and heavy clay industry. In 1976 the journal introduced a German/English text section. From 1986/87 onwards, the Zi Annual also appeared as a bilingual publication, so that it acquired an international readership. Manfred W. Kleinfeld has always felt a special commitment to ensuring the worldwide distribution and the stronger integration of German and international equipment manufacturers as advertisers. In 1970 the advertising agency Mauritius Werbedienst was established as a subsidiary of the Bauverlag. Manfred W. Kleinfeld carried this on independently from 1988 – in connection with the exclusive representation for Zi and the Zi Annual – as MWK Werbung GmbH. In 2004, Manfred W. Kleinfeld has handed over the advertising management of Zi Brick and Tile Industry International to Ingo Wanders, Bauverlag BV GmbH.

With the death of Manfred W. Kleinfeld, we have lost a former colleague who made a crucial contribution to shaping and developing Zi Brick and Tile Industry International for 44 years. Not only we, but his many business partners will miss him.
