German Brick and Tile Association sets course for the future

Attila Gerhäuser succeeds Dr Matthias Frederichs as General Manager

The Federal Association of the German Brick and Tile Industry (BVZi) has a new top management: since 1 May 2022, Attila Gerhäuser has been responsible for the BVZi’s general management. The 37-year-old European lawyer succeeds Dr Matthias Frederichs, who will move to the Federal Association of Building Materials – Stones and Soil (Bundesverband Baustoffe –Steine und Erden e.V.) as general manager from August.

“I would like to thank the Board of Directors for the great trust they have placed in me and I am very much looking forward to my new task. I see a central challenge in accompanying the brick industry’s path to climate neutrality and in further developing the proactive and visible representation of our industry’s interests in Berlin and Brussels,” Gerhäuser outlines the upcoming tasks. “Stefan Jungk and Matthias Frederichs have achieved an enormous amount here in recent years. We need to build on this.”

Attila Gerhäuser is very well connected in politics and associations. Previously, he was managing director of the European and professional law department of the German Association of Tax Consultants and worked in the European Parliament and as head of the European office of the German Chemical Industry Association (VCI) in Brussels from 2011 to 2018. Gerhäuser and Frederichs will jointly lead BVZi as part of a two-month induction and handover phase.

David Ostendorf new technical director

Also new to BVZi is David Ostendorf. As Technical Managing Director, the civil engineer coordinates the activities of the roof tile, facing brick and paving brick divisions. David Ostendorf succeeds the long-standing Technical Managing Director Dieter Rosen, who is taking his well-deserved retirement this summer – after almost 23 years in the service of the brick industry. Ostendorf previously acted as Managing Director of the Building and Solid Construction Association in the Central Association of the German Building Trade (ZDB) and is therefore very familiar with brickwork construction. “It is impossible to imagine our cities without brick as a building material for roofs, walls, facades and surfaces. I look forward to helping shape this positioning,” says David Ostendorf.
