Wilhelm Röben celebrates his 90th birthday
30.09.2025On 29 September, Wilhelm Röben, senior partner at Röben Tonbaustoffe GmbH in Zetel, celebrated his 90th birthday.
Following the sudden death of his father, Wilhelm August Röben, he took over responsibility for the family business in November 1956 at the age of just 21. Under his leadership, Röben quickly developed into one of the leading suppliers in the industry in Europe.
With the acquisition of the Triangle Brick clinker plant in North Carolina in 1979, he also ventured across the Atlantic. Today, the company is one of the five largest clinker manufacturers in the USA.
"I still enjoy being with my colleagues at the plant and in the office. I really enjoy getting together with them – and, of course, seeing how things develop. However, I withdrew from the operational side of the business a long time ago," explains Wilhelm Röben.
Following in the footsteps of his son Wilhelm-Renke Röben, who joined the company as managing director in 1989, his grandchildren, siblings Freya and Johann Röben, have also been members of the management board since 1 May 2022. ‘We wish our grandfather all the best. We want to continue to ensure that Röben stands for quality and reliability in the future,’ emphasises Freya Röben. ‘We are delighted and proud to be able to help shape the family business in its sixth generation,’ adds Johann Röben.
The Röben Group is a sixth-generation family business and the largest private manufacturer of brick products in Germany. A total of 1,250 employees work in 13 state-of-the-art factories in Europe and the USA, manufacturing sustainable products for the future: clinker bricks, clinker brick slips, roof tiles, porcelain stoneware and prefabricated brick components for planners and builders worldwide.
The Röben Group's headquarters and porcelain stoneware factory are located in Zetel, Friesland. There, 40 employees work in administration and 50 in production.
