Wienerberger latest to get in the LOOP and move to circular economy pallets

According to a press release from 12 March 2025, Wienerberger UK & Ireland is the latest company to sign a deal with The Pallet LOOP, the circular economy pallet reuse scheme for the construction industry. Since early April, green reusable LOOP pallets, loaded with Wienerberger’s Sandtoft roofing tiles, have entered the building materials supply chain – delivering multiple environmental and financial benefits to roofing distributors, merchants, housebuilders and Tier 1 contractors.

Wienerberger is the UK’s provider of innovative solutions for the entire building envelope, including walls, roofs, heating and water management, and is committed to becoming a net-zero emission, nature-positive business. Moving to The Pallet LOOP (part of BSW Group) strongly aligns with ambitions set out in the company’s sustainability strategy ‘Let’s Build Beyond’ and its biodiversity strategy ‘Let’s Build with Nature in Mind’.

Once in receipt of green pallets, Wienerberger roofing customers will be able to use The Pallet LOOP’s nationwide pallet collection service as an alternative to traditional pallet disposal methods, helping them cut waste, reduce carbon emissions and save money. For every green LOOP pallet returned for reuse, The Pallet LOOP will also give registered return partners a PayBack of up to £4.

Explaining more, Kevin Perkins, Director of Procurement at Wienerberger, said: “This is a fantastic step forward, showing our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and smarter ways of working. Through this partnership, we’ll be making a real difference in our supply chain, ultimately reducing waste. In future, we hope to overcome some remaining technical challenges that will enable us to replace the remaining single-use pallets with Pallet LOOP pallets across our UK & Ireland businesses.”

Paul Lewis, Founder and Managing Director of The Pallet LOOP said: “What an incredible way to start 2025. Wienerberger’s decision to move to The Pallet LOOP reinforces that we are an industry-wide solution that can be used by all kinds of building materials manufacturers to transport products in a more sustainable way.

“For too many years, pallet disposal has been an issue across UK construction. With the backing of companies like Wienerberger, we’re now solving that problem. Less than a year since launching we are now moving plaster, insulation and roofing products on our reusable pallets. We are delighted to welcome Wienerberger to the LOOP and look forward to working with its customers to drive up pallet collections and drive down waste and carbon emissions.”

The Pallet LOOP offers a solution that is greener, leaner, safer and smarter than the current status quo. The business provides a range of standardised pallets that are designed to be reused again and again, alongside a nationwide pallet collection service that will pick up pallets (green and white) from building sites and merchants from as little as 72 hours.
