On 20 August 2014, Hans Ries, long-serving head of the Eirich Test Center and a widely respected author in his field, died at the age of 85. Process engineer Hans Ries was head of the Process Technology department at Eirich for 41 years from 1953 until his retirement in 1994. During this time, with his breadth of his ideas and desire for innovation, he developed a modern test centre.

In the industry, and especially in his specialist field of ceramics, his name has a particular resonance. Hans Ries published countless technical publications and gave innumerable technical presentations across the world. Even after his retirement, several trade associations valued him so highly they made him an honorary member and senior consultant. With his extensive work in the public eye, he became synonymous with Eirich in the industry.

With his sense of humour and warm, boisterous nature, Hans Ries won the hearts of many people throughout the world. With his technical and personal achievements he has erected a memorial to himself.
