80 years of Wendel’s values

Wendel GmbH Email- und Glasurenfabrik, an enamel and glazes factory based in Dillenburg, Germany, is looking forward to the very eventful months ahead. From 22nd to 25th May, Wendel’s ceramics department will be showcasing its products at Ceramitec (Hall 6, Stand 123/222) in Munich. In his capacity as President of the International Enamellers Institute, Wendel’s Managing Director, Dipl.-Kfm. Klaus-Achim Wendel, will open the 22nd International Enamellers’ Congress in Cologne in June 2012. At this event the research and development managers of Wendel’s two enamel departments will be holding lectures on the company’s latest developments. In addition, the international congress attendees will have the opportunity to tour Wendel’s facilities. In August 2012, the company is celebrating its 80th-year anniversary with its workforce and many of its customers.

“Quality is our recipe”

With its company philosophy “Quality is our recipe”, Wendel has succeeded in combining tradition and innovation. Since its founding in 1932, the family-run business has produced high-quality products and developed innovative solutions for each of its many customers. Klaus-Achim Wendel is now managing the company in the fourth generation. Under his management, his team of 120 highly motivated and specialized employees knows how to convince the company’s customers and keep them satisfied day after day.

For Wendel, “Quality” is a process of improvement and must be permanently optimized. This applies to the production and processing of enamels, ceramic frits, glazes and engobes as well as to cooperation with customers, suppliers and employees. 35 employees in the three Wendel laboratories develop products for every individual customer and scrutinize product quality after every work step. So it goes without saying that Wendel can boast numerous awards and certificates.

Besides being awarded the “Grand prize for SMEs” as one of Germany’s best SMEs, Wendel was awarded first prize in the “Together in Hessen” scheme for its perfect integration of non-German employees in company working life. As an Authorized Economic Operator, it is also in possession of the AEO certificate. Its quality management has been certified according to ISO 9001:2008 and its environmental management according to ISO 14001:2004, the latter stemming from a long tradition

The company’s dedication to extensive environmental and health protection is the root from which the company sprung in 1932 following the invention of the first lead-free enamel production by Karl Heinrich Wendel. With the same motivation, Wendel’s ceramics department produces exclusively lead-free and, on request, calcium-free frits, glazes and engobes. All products are produced from selected raw materials and undergo the strictest quality control by means of state-of-the-art computer-controlled technology. There is hardly any customer request that Wendel cannot meet. For the design of ceramic surfaces, it offers an extensive selection of colours: from matt to high-gloss, transparent to opaque, craquelure or crack-free. Perfectly matched to the ceramic body and the firing conditions, Wendel glazes and engobes are acid- and base-resistant as well as freeze-thaw resistant and can be supplied with special surface finishes, e.g. metallic effect. Wendel’s product portfolio is extensive. The company is looking forward to its next 80 years!
