S-FM pointing mortar: For added surety in pointing

The quick-mix Group put the spotlight on their new, sulphate-resistant S-FM pointing mortar.

The patented new Secon binder technology keeps pointing mortar from blooming and leaching. The acronym Secon stands for the three attributes secure, ecological and economical.

quick-mix has demonstrated the functionality of its new sulphate-resistant pointing mortar both on internal surfaces exposed to multi-annual weathering and at practice-oriented building sites. Tests conducted at the Institute of Building Materials Research at RWTH Aachen University (ibac) confirm the positive findings. “Even after extreme heat-rain cycles in the EOTA artificial-ageing chamber, no leaching or efflorescence from the pointing mortar was found on the façades“, says Dr. Martin Kanig, head of Mineral Mortar Systems at quick-mix Research and Development. “The overall appearance of the masonry remains unaltered“, he says.

The fact that S-FM causes neither efflorescence nor leaching is reflected by a ten-year guarantee that quick-mix offers for the time after pointing of the brick veneer shell. The new pointing mortar is of purely mineral content and counts as a low-emission product according to EC1plus. Thanks to its innovative composition of constituents, S-FM can be produced with significant savings in terms of primary energy and CO2 emissions.

On site, quick-mix‘s new S-FM can be applied in the usual manner as conventional grout.

The S-FM mortar by quick-mix is a standard masonry mortar type M10 in accordance with DIN EN 998-2 for use in pointing the joints of all types of exposed masonry. As of January 2019, it will be on the market in the standard colours cement grey, beige white, grey white, light sand, dark grey, anthracite and black, in addition to special colours on request.
