Wienerberger

Wienerberger expands its North American business and acquires local supplier Summitville Tiles, Inc.

With the acquisition of the Ohio-based tile manufacturer Summitville Tiles, Inc. announced at the end of February, Wienerberger is expanding its activities in North America and taking another important step in its global value-creating growth strategy. Founded in 1912, the long-established US company specializes in the production of brick slips for prefabricated façade systems for residential and commercial renovations. Wienerberger expects this market to grow by around 10 % annually over the next five years. The product portfolio of Summitville Tiles, Inc. underlines the shift towards even more sustainability in the construction industry.

"Summitville Tiles is a perfect addition for Wienerberger. The expansion of the resource-saving production of brick slips for prefabricated façade systems for renovation is a logical step in a growing market for innovative and ecological building materials. Solutions for prefabricated brick façade cladding will play an increasingly important role in making existing buildings climate-resistant, as the additional layer also provides lasting protection against the increasingly frequent extreme weather events such as storms, hail and heavy rain. They also help to save resources in terms of dematerialization and emissions, as they enable the simple renovation and repair of older façades. With this acquisition, we can offer a portfolio of holistic, ecological solutions for the entire building envelope, which we need to meet the challenge of climate change and its effects," says Heimo Scheuch, CEO of Wienerberger AG.
