Fibre composites in furnace construction

Ceramic fibre composites extend the excellent high-temperature properties of classic all-ceramics with significantly increased damage tolerance. This applies to both impact resistance and, in particular, thermal shock resistance. The use of high-strength ceramic fibres held together in a ceramic matrix allows the production of thin-walled and therefore very lightweight components. The presentation provides an insight into the basic principles of ceramic fibre reinforcement and explains the resulting properties. Furthermore, the manufacturing route for ceramic fibre composite components is presented and examples of furnace components and fields of application are listed.
