Further training to become a ceramics technician in Höhr-Grenzhausen on a full-time and integrated part-time basis. Start after the summer holidays.

The Technical College for Ceramic Technology and Ceramic Design in Höhr-Grenzhausen offers the possibility of further vocational training with the qualification „State-certified Technician specialising in Ceramic Technology (Bachelor Professional in Technology)“ and „State-certified Designer specialising in Ceramic Design (Bachelor Professional in Design)“.

The modern training concept is organised on a modular basis. Thematically self-contained learning modules with a duration of around four weeks make it possible to focus on the essential issues of ceramics and the professional skills to be developed by the ceramics technician.

This vocational training programme is therefore ideally suited for part-time training, where only a self-planned number of modules per year need to be completed. The „State-certified technician specialising in ceramics technology (Bachelor Professional in Technology)“ degree can therefore be obtained in up to five years, but often more quickly. Overtime, holiday days and unpaid leave of absence can generally be used for the training period. However, many companies make a considerable contribution to the time and financial costs of further training in order to reliably secure their own skilled labour requirements. The school will be happy to advise you on this.

In the case of full-time training, graduation is planned after just two school years. During this time, pupils are not usually employed by a company. Depending on their personal situation, however, they may be eligible for training support within the framework of the Upgrading BAföG programme (www.aufstiegs-bafög.de).

On the one hand, compulsory modules must be completed during the training programme and, on the other hand, additional modules can be booked from the elective area depending on interests and training progress. In addition to silicate ceramics, subject areas include abrasives, refractory ceramics, technical ceramics and enamelling. Whether part-time or full-time, all students complete their vocational training with a final project, which usually takes place in co-operation with a ceramics company. This emphasises the proximity of the training and the entire school to industry and the skilled trades.

Current teaching and learning concepts emphasise individual learning with a high degree of personal responsibility and independence and promote a direct and close connection to ceramic professional practice. The aim is to qualify our students to level 6 according to the German Qualifications Framework (DQR): „Ceramic technicians have the ability to plan, process and analyse comprehensive technical tasks and problems as well as to independently control processes in sub-areas in a professional field of activity. The requirements structure is characterised by complexity and frequent changes.“ In order to achieve a suitable combination of ceramic and professional skills, learning modules are also completed in the areas of management, business administration, communication and work techniques as well as communication in a foreign language. The training licence („AdA-Schein“) can also be obtained at our school.

Our school offers the following entry options: Either you have a ceramics qualification and one year of work experience or you have a non-ceramics qualification and two years of work experience or you have six years of work experience without a qualification, three of which must be in ceramics. In the case of part-time training, you do not have to provide proof of professional experience until the end of the training programme; working hours between the learning modules are counted towards this.

Living and learning at our school is often characterised by small learning groups and the associated very personal and intensive support from all members of staff at our technical school. This enables pupils to have a high degree of involvement in school life, for example through pupil administration or participation in school committees. We also emphasise a friendly atmosphere outside the classroom. Find out more about our school and contact us, we will be happy to help you!
