Wienerberger: well-equipped for the time after the crisis thanks to extraordinary measures
The international economic crisis has not spared the world‘s largest clay brick and tile producer, Wienerberger AG. Heimo Scheuch, CEO at Wienerberger AG since 1 August, is responding to the difficult market situation with a plan of action. We spoke to him about the new group strategy, but also about his responsibilities as TBE President, and the chances and challenges in the clay brick and tile sector.
Zi: Dr Scheuch, you have been CEO of the world’s largest clay brick and tile producer since 1 August 2009, and you head a group with around 13 000 employees in a time overshadowed by a financial and economic crisis unlike any that we have ever experienced previously. The current situation in the clay brick and tile industry is generally very grim worldwide. Even the markets that had been previously flourishing, especially the USA, where the crisis began, and Great Britain too, have been hit by a drastic decline in demand for building materials.
