Bernini Impianti – trusted partner for the African heavy clay industry

The Italian company Bernini Impianti has been consistently successful on the African market for many years – starting from its first installations for South Africa in the year 2 000 to the latest projects in the Congo and Djibouti in 2015. In the Congo, for example, a system has been installed suitable for use with alternative fuels, satisfying the client’s main requirements.

On African territory Bernini Impianti has now installed more than 16 heavy oil firing systems, eight petcoke and biomass firing systems (including some with a complete feeding system for coal) as well as eight combined drying and firing systems for gas operation.

In North Africa, not only have coal-fired kilns been installed, dryers have also been supplied. In addition, the company has acted in a consulting capacity in projects using the Bernini Kiln Scanner, which is used to generate a graphic of the actual temperature curve in the kiln and therefore the kiln performance.

As there has been an increased demand for projects for the installation of new plants, the focus has been on Bernini’s integrated systems. These offer modern brick plants total flexibility with the use of heavy oil or gas and help reduce fuel consumption. Another benefit for the clients is that the systems offered are complete, easily accessible and very practical in use. Bernini attaches great importance to intensive training of the users and technicians on site to ensure the systems are operated properly and serviced regularly. Of course, Bernini is also on hand for technical assistance and the supply of spare parts.

The current trend in the clay brick and tile industry towards the further reduction of emissions has led Bernini Impianti to invest in the development of burners that can be operated with biomass as well as with coal and with a considerable reduction in fuel consumption. The clients too have also established a drastic decrease in the emissions of CO2 into the atmosphere. For countries where the availability of traditional fuels is limited or where their cost is too high in comparison to biomass, these models offer an excellent alternative. Bernini Impianti is currently working together with environmental associations in projects that support chamber of commerce and government initiatives towards energy-efficient clay brick production. For most of these projects, agreements have been reached for financial support with economic aid, or credit on favourable terms with local financial institutions.

Bernini works closely with each client – starting with the development of the project, through the design and realization. Step-by-step, every aspect of the project is customized to fit the client’s economic and technical conditions. This leads to close relationships with the clients, which remain strong after completion of the projects and are testimony to the fact that Bernini Impianti is not only an effective system provider but a part of the African brick industry family.
