Ceramics in Brazil

Sustainability has been a topic that has followed us around at every event and discussion we have taken part in during recent years. And what are we doing about it? What initiatives are we taking? What and how much can we still improve in the industry in the face of such a vital need? What is the best way to present our sustainable products and companies to society? How can we defend ourselves from the attack of competitors who, despite polluting the environment themselves, try to play down the quality of our products and our initiatives?

The market has changed, and so have we. We have become much more aware of our responsibilities as an industry as a whole. Over the last ten years, we have grown and improved. Our companies are more solid, our investments are more significant and committed to the results we need to achieve as ceramic entrepreneurs. Together, we employ thousands of people and supply the market. Research, studies, partnerships, new projects, figures, charts, everything shows us we are on the right track as small entrepreneurs working together in order to improve the heavy clay industry.

Created in 1992, the National Ceramic Industry Association (Anicer) represents and gives a voice to over 90 % of the Brazilian plants. We work on behalf of the thousands of entrepreneurs in the sector, promoting synergy among the industries and the public-private sector, as well as organizations, partners, researchers, technicians, suppliers and consumers.

Today, the segment represents 4.8 % of the construction industry in the country, generating approximately 300 000 direct and 900 000 indirect jobs. The Brazilian heavy clay industry plays an important role in the national economy, with an annual turnover greater than BRL 6 bill. Over 4 bill. structural and sealing blocks are produced on a monthly basis, as well as 1.3 bill. roofing tiles.

The country‘s economic crisis changed both the scenario and the rhythm of civil construction, which had a direct impact on our sector. But we are optimistic that good news will still arrive by the end of 2016.

On this note, I should like to invite you all to get to know the most important event for the Brazilian ceramic industry. It will be a pleasure to welcome you all to the 45th National Heavy Clay Meeting and 19th Exhibition of Machinery, Equipment, Products, Services and Inputs for the Ceramic Industry, which will be held between 24 and 27 August 2016, at Expo D. Pedro, in Campinas – São Paulo.

See you there!
