Spanish brick and clay tile industry reports rise in production output for 2015

Just like other fields of industry that depend on the construction sector, Spain‘s brick and clay tile producers have been in the doldrums since 2008. The downturn in construction activity has forced brick and clay tile producers to adjust to the situation by concentrating their output within just a few months a year. That, of course, has had direct, if gradual, impacts on the number of employees and revenues. 2015 was the first year since the crisis began that the production figures showed a year-on-year increase.

In 2007, the Spanish brick and clay tile industry, as represented by Hispalyt, the Spanish Association of Brick and Clay Tile Manufacturers, counted 430 member companies. By 2014, that figure had dropped to 200, and by 2015, only 195 members were left. That figures to a decline of 54.65 % compared to 2007 and 2.5 % below the year before.


Spanish brick and tile producers turned out 28.8 mill. t of products in 2007. By 2014, their output had shrunk to a mere 3.9 mill. t. In 2015, though, they registered a modest increase to 4.1 mill. t, or about the same level as in 2013. While that...
