Successful implementation at Terreal roof tile plant

At the beginning of 2022, Cleia finalized the commissioning of a first waste heat recovery facility in the heavy clay industry. The waste heat from the kiln at Terreal roof tile plant in Chagny/France is recovered and provides thermal energy to a clay crushing plant, previously powered by a natural gas burner. Thus, the site‘s natural gas consumption has been reduced on the dry preparation grinding line, as have greenhouse gas emissions.

The process is based on three technology “bricks”: a flue gas heat collecting system, a heat exchanger with acid condensate reclamation, and an optimized network of air ducts between collection and use. The thermal power is approximately about 2200 kW.

The planning approximately took one year from order confirmation to commissioning. The commissioning of the overall system was carried out without disturbance to the kiln’s operating. The return on investment, not counting state subsidies, is around three years.

The Terreal team around Xavier Grosjean (project manager) and Christophe Picon (process) was very pleased about the fast and professional realisation and thanked the Cleia team: Jérôme Flache (project manager), Philippe Thenoz (process), Thierry Gaudillier (design), Santo Giovinazzo (erection) and Didier Marchal (commissioning).
