Witgert commissions new raw materials hall

Arno Witgert has been mining clay since 1820, making it one of the oldest clay mining companies still in operation in the Westerwald region. In recent decades, emphasis has centred on processing quarried clays into ceramic preblends. Witgert presently delivers some 150 000 t of ceramic raw materials per year to all corners of the world.

Now, following a six-month construction phase, Witgert’s new raw materials hall was completed in late July. Its 18 new boxes enhance the company’s flexibility in the production of customerized clay blends. They also make it possible to accelerate the use of secondary raw materials. That latter point is frequently linked to just-in-time acceptance at the point of production, hence necessitating storage. The new storehouse, a high-mass concrete-steel structure, stands as the company’s largest single investment in its nearly 200-year history.
