Hessian Export Award 2023 for Wendel GmbH Email- und Glasurenfabrik

Wendel GmbH Email- und Glasurenfabrik from Dillenburg was awarded the Hessian Export Prize 2023 in the Industry category on 12 July 2023. The Hessian Minister of Economics, Tarek Al-Wazir, presented the award in a ceremony at the House of History in Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany.

The ceremony was framed by a keynote speech by the CEO of Pirelli Germany, Wolfgang Meier, and a panel discussion with Kirsten Schoder-Steinmüller, President of the Association of Hessian Chambers of Industry and Commerce, Dr Christof Riess, Chief Executive of the Chamber of Crafts Frankfurt-Rhein-Main, and Tarek Al-Wazir. In his laudatory speech, Stefan Messer (Messer SE & Co. KGaA) emphasised the "all-round carefree package" with which Wendel convinces its partners. "Reliability, customer proximity and quality are the hallmarks of medium-sized industry. And if the product is then also durable, hard-wearing and easily recyclable - in other words, sustainable in the best sense of the word - the numerous industrial applications are also indispensable for the energy turnaround," says Messer.

Wendel GmbH Email- und Glasurenfabrik is active in 33 countries with sister companies in Spain and France. The company produces enamel for household appliances, sanitary fittings as well as tableware, signs and jewellery. Wendel is the world market leader in cast enamels for cast-iron bathtubs. The glazes and engobes are mainly used on ceramic clay roof tiles. With its melting and grinding plant for ceramic glass frits, Wendel also serves clinker, tiles, kiln tiles and many other special applications. In Germany, Wendel is one of the two largest manufacturers.

The Hessian Export Prize is awarded every two years by the Hessian Chambers of Industry and Commerce, the Hessian Chambers of Trade and the Hessian Ministry of Economics. This year 39 companies applied. Companies from Hessen with a maximum of 250 employees that export, import or operate across borders were eligible to participate. A nine-member jury, consisting of representatives from business, politics and the media, selected the winners. The prize is awarded in the categories of industry, trade and services, and crafts.
