02.06.2009 News: bauma Innovation Award 2010: Deadline for application is September 15th, 2009

The head associations of the German construction industry take the opportunity of bauma, the world’s leading trade fair for construction and building material machinery, construction vehicles and tools as well as mining equipment which will take place from April 19th to 25th, 2010 in Munich, to honour forward-looking and innovative developments with regard to construction equipment, building material machinery, construction processes and mining technology with an innovation award. Applications can be submitted from today onwards to September 15th, 2009.

The bauma Innovation Award is offered in five categories. These are “machinery“, “machinery component“, “construction process/construction work“, “research“ and “design“. The competition has been raised to an international level. For the first time, also companies that are based outside Germany can apply for the Award. Sole requirement: all applicants have to be exhibitors of bauma 2010. Applications for category “construction process/construction work” still are limited to member companies of the German Associations of the construction and building material industry. Applications for category “research“ are restricted to research institutes or universities.

The innovations handed in for the contest should be sustainable and of high practical use, also the efficiency and increase in productivity which these technologies make possible as well as aspects such as the innovations being environmentally friendly, saving energy and cost and making the workplace safer and operator-friendly will be taken into account by the jury. In all categories, the innovations must be related to the construction equipment and building material machinery industry, the mining equipment industry or to the construction or building material industry.

The panel of judges consists of important international representatives of the construction industry as well as leading professors in these fields and editors of specialised trade magazines. Nominations will be officially announced at the bauma pre-press conference that takes place end of January 2010 in Munich. The winners will be honoured at the awards ceremony on April 18th, 2010 at Munich Residenz.

In 2010, the innovation prize will be awarded for the ninth time. The competition is a common project driven by head associations of the German construction industry such as the German Engineering Federation (VDMA = Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau e.V.), HDB (Hauptverband der Deutschen Bauindustrie e.V.), ZDB (Zentralverband des deutschen Baugewerbes e.V.) and BBS (Bundesverband Baustoffe - Steine und Erden e.V.) and bauma.
