Sustainable wall building materials on the advance

Every second Poroton exterior wall clay block now filled

In 2012 the members of Deutsche Poroton that manufacture clay blocks were able to increase the percentage of filled clay blocks to 16% (2.3 mill. m3) of the total sales of the Association. In the previous year, this share was still 13%. For the current year, Deutsche Poroton is expecting an increase to around 20%.

The slight increase in newbuild activities in housing construction in Germany since 2010 as well as the trend towards sustainability are adding up to a big plus especially for filled products for exterior walls. In 2011 every third Poroton exterior wall clay block contained integrated insulation consisting of perlite or mineral wool, in 2012 this share had already reached 40% – that is 185 mill. standard size blocks in absolute terms.

The range of Poroton clay bricks and blocks includes more than 355 products, which is reflected in a share of around 46% on the clay brick market in Germany. Deutsche Poroton forecasts further increases in sales for the future, especially considering the stricter requirements of Germany’s Energy Saving Ordinance. The Association supports 16 Poroton plants in Germany, employing 1 800 people as well as 31 apprentices.
