Fanuc launches latest-generation palletizers with 185-kg robot

Fanuc presented the first model to appear in their new series of palletizing robots. The just-out M-410iC has a maximum carrying capacity of 185 kg and can handle 1 700 palletizing cycles per hour.

The reconfigurated unit‘s new servo drives accelerate the robot to yield 13% faster cycle times. Its higher axis speeds derive from leaner engineering and the use of new, powerful motors.

The new M-410iC/185 is designed for material throughput rates upwards of 300 t/h. That figure is based on a palletizing cycle in which the robot raises the load 400 mm, traverses it 2 000 mm, and lowers it again by 400 mm. The old 160 model achieved 1 500 cycles/h and 240 t/h. The total number of hourly palletizing cycles can, however, differ from the design value, depending on the duration of prehension, i.e., grabbing. The new-series robots have been constructively deslagged. Now, without a balancer, they weigh less and have fewer parts, with correspondingly positive effects on spare-parts management.

These new palletizing robots are also available with or without a pedestal base, so engineering contractors and users alike can choose the version they prefer. Robots with a pedestal have a characteristic workspace that benefits their motion range. A pedestal also provides safe housing for the controller. Together with its controller, an M-410iC/185 weighs 1.6 t. On the other hand, European manufacturers opting for retrofit automation sometimes need robots that can function well in comparatively low-ceilinged halls. For such cases, Fanuc has a no-pedestal version called the “Compact Base”. The hollow wrist of the 4-axis type facilitates media routing all the way into the wrist.

The  robot specialist

Fanuc Robotics is a member of Fanuc Ltd. Around the world, the Fanuc Group has upwards of 6 500 employees - globally 30.000 robots are sold per year (totalling up to now more than 250.000 robots). In 2011, Fanuc Robotics marketed 8 495 robots, more than half of which were sold to not automobile related industries. Fanuc robots are designed at group headquarters in Japan and manufactured in a highly automated production environment. Present production capacity is situated at 5 000 robots a month. Fanuc Robotics has an extremely broad array of products to offer, spanning roughly 100 different models with four to six axes and load capacities between 0.5 and 1 350 kg.
