Unipor brick factories boost sales and revenues

2018 was a good year for the countrywide Unipor-Ziegel- Gruppe: Together, the Unipor Group‘s eight member companies sold a total of 584 million standard-size masonry bricks – up 3.1% over the previous year.

Revenues also increased during the same period, totalling € 109.9 million (after € 104.8 million in 2017), for a gain of 4.9%. These current business results show that the Unipor Group‘s yearlong positive trend is still unbroken. Consequently, Unipor is expecting the order-books situation to remain robust in 2019.

The group‘s eight middle-market member companies stand for roughly 20% of Germany‘s overall clay-masonry-unit market: At twelve locations around the country, they produce mainly highly insulative common masonry bricks and supplementary system products. All Unipor brickmakers were able to at least equal, if not surpass, their previous year‘s results. The demand for prefabricated clay masonry components, however, remained stagnant in 2018 and therefore continues to account for about 10% of the overall volume.

Expectations for the current business year are cautiously positive. Construction activities are being curbed by, among other factors, limited processing capabilities. Unipor managing director Dr. Thomas Fehlhaber explains: As far as production output is concerned, no shortage of material need be feared. But masonry construction is being held back by a shrinking number of recruits. So, many job vacancies are going unfilled, and the resultant bottleneck is delaying numerous construction projects. Hence, new residential construction remains one of Germany‘s central political tasks.“
