Production of the New Large-Size Roofing Tile in Teistungen
Erlus AG, a leading manufacturer of roofing and chimney construction materials, premièred its new large-size roofing tile E 58 Plus at Bau 2009. As the largest pantile in the Erlus range, it features an exceptionally large variable head interlock of over 30 mm and a batten width of 44.9 cm. The coverage requirement is 7.5 tiles per m², the E 58 Plus weighs just over 5 kg.
Production in Teistungen
The new Ergoldsbacher E 58 Plus is to be produced in Thuringia from summer 2009. Erlus AG is currently extending its plant in Teistungen to accommodate production. “Construction of the extension is going smoothly and has so far gone according to plan”, explains Dr. Rüdiger Grau, Director for Production, Raw Materials, Research and Development. Erlus acquired the site including the extensive clay deposits back in 2001. The site concept foresees a two-stage plant extension for the production of the new E 58 Plus. For this extension, Erlus is investing a sum in the lower double-figure million range. The capacities of the preparation department have already bend designed for the second phase of the extension.
Production will be a state-of-the-art process. Most of the jobs in Teistungen will be retained and the qualified employees trained for roofing tile production by staff from Erlus’ main plant in Neufahrn. The partial dismantling of the building is complete, the newly constructed facility almost finished. The machines needed for production of the large-size roofing tiles are on order, the last delivery is scheduled for the beginning of May. After that, Erlus AG will start up production at the extended plant and following trial operation, launch the first products from Teistungen on the market in summer 2009.
With the expansion of production at the centre of Germany, Erlus aims to improve the logistical efficiency and cut the time of supply to the markets in the north and east of the country and to neighbouring countries.
