1 Introduction and objective

As the clay brick and tile industry is one of the most energy-intensive industries and energy costs account for a very high percentage of the cost of the finished product, new developments for the reduction of the energy consumption are extremely significant. It was investigated whether with reduced wall friction in extrusion, the moisture content and therefore the power uptake of the extruder up to drying energy consumption can be lowered. Reduction of the wall friction was to be achieved with the application of electro-osmosis.
